1. Diet

What guinea pigs can or can’t eat can vary. So, here is a quick list of what they can or can’t eat.

Guinea Pigs Can Eat:

  • Hay
  • Carrots
  • Strawberry (small amount each week)
  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Apple Slices (small amount each week)
  • Pellets
  • Broccoli (small amount each week)
  • Oranges (small amount each week)
  • Seedless Grapes (small amount each week)

Guinea Pigs CAN’T Eat:

  • Potatoes (anything having to do with potatoes)
  • Cedar wood
  • Nuts
  • Corn
  • Breads
  • Sweets
  • Cereal
  • Onions
  • Onion Grass

Guinea pig’s diet should also have guinea pigs fed at least 3 times a day, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and should have snacks every now and then between those 3 meals.

2. House/Cage

A guinea pig should have a big house, since guinea pigs need a lot of room to grow. For one guinea pig the house size should be 7.5 square feet but its okay to get a bigger cage. For 2+ guinea pigs you should get a house that is 10.5 square feet. Also, in the cage, you should make many places for the guinea pig(s) to hide so the guinea can feel safe.

3. Attention

The amount of attention you need to give your guinea pig(s) matters on how many guinea pig(s) you are gonna buy. If you are interested in only getting one guinea pig, like I was, you would have to give it a lot of attention since guinea pigs get lonely easily. But if you are going to get multiple guinea pigs you don’t have to give so much attention as getting only one guinea pig, but you should still give them attention.
